NMLC was founded in 2017 by Ken Ervin as a promise to his kids that they would not miss out on the sport of lacrosse when the family moved to Houlton. As NMLC became a reality, the club created a board and partnered with several organizations in Houlton including Vital Pathways, the Houlton Recreation Program, and the Houlton Band of Maliseets.
Since the clubs inception, NMLC has the motto of "sport for all". Everyone is accepted, regardless of skill level. The program flourished with special grants from US Lacrosse including a Soft Stick Grant, a First Stick Grant, and the boys program received a boost from the Bill Belichick Foundation.
